The Essential Basics of Backgammon Game Plans – Part 2

[ English ]

As we dicussed in the previous article, Backgammon is a casino game of skill and good luck. The aim is to shift your chips safely around the board to your home board while at the same time your opponent shifts their checkers toward their home board in the opposite direction. With opposing player checkers shifting in opposing directions there is going to be conflict and the requirement for specific strategies at particular times. Here are the last two Backgammon techniques to round out your game.

The Priming Game Plan

If the purpose of the blocking strategy is to slow down the opponent to move his checkers, the Priming Game tactic is to completely barricade any movement of the opposing player by creating a prime – ideally 6 points in a row. The competitor’s pieces will either get hit, or result a bad position if he/she ever attempts to leave the wall. The trap of the prime can be setup anyplace between point two and point 11 in your board. As soon as you have successfully built the prime to prevent the activity of your opponent, your opponent doesn’t even get a chance to toss the dice, that means you shift your checkers and roll the dice again. You’ll win the game for sure.

The Back Game Technique

The goals of the Back Game technique and the Blocking Game plan are very similar – to hinder your opponent’s positions hoping to improve your chances of succeeding, but the Back Game technique uses seperate tactics to achieve that. The Back Game technique is generally used when you are far behind your opponent. To play Backgammon with this tactic, you need to hold two or more points in table, and to hit a blot (a single piece) late in the game. This plan is more complex than others to play in Backgammon seeing as it needs careful movement of your pieces and how the pieces are moved is partially the outcome of the dice roll.
