The Essential Facts of Backgammon Strategies – Part 2

As we dicussed in the previous article, Backgammon is a game of ability and luck. The goal is to move your pieces carefully around the game board to your inside board while at the same time your opponent shifts their pieces toward their home board in the opposite direction. With opposing player chips shifting in opposing directions there is bound to be conflict and the requirement for specific tactics at particular instances. Here are the two final Backgammon strategies to complete your game.

The Priming Game Tactic

If the goal of the blocking strategy is to slow down the opponent to move their chips, the Priming Game tactic is to absolutely stop any activity of the opposing player by creating a prime – ideally 6 points in a row. The competitor’s chips will either get bumped, or end up in a damaged position if she ever tries to escape the wall. The trap of the prime can be setup anyplace between point two and point 11 in your board. As soon as you’ve successfully built the prime to prevent the movement of your competitor, your opponent doesn’t even get a chance to toss the dice, that means you move your chips and toss the dice again. You’ll win the game for sure.

The Back Game Technique

The objectives of the Back Game tactic and the Blocking Game tactic are similar – to hinder your competitor’s positions hoping to improve your odds of succeeding, however the Back Game tactic relies on alternate tactics to do that. The Back Game strategy is often employed when you’re far behind your competitor. To participate in Backgammon with this strategy, you need to control two or more points in table, and to hit a blot (a single checker) late in the game. This tactic is more difficult than others to play in Backgammon because it requires careful movement of your pieces and how the checkers are relocated is partly the result of the dice toss.
