The Basics of Backgammon Tactics – Part 2

[ English ]

As we dicussed in the previous article, Backgammon is a casino game of skill and luck. The aim is to move your checkers safely around the game board to your inner board while at the same time your opposing player shifts their checkers toward their inside board in the opposite direction. With opposing player checkers shifting in opposing directions there is bound to be conflict and the need for particular tactics at specific instances. Here are the 2 final Backgammon tactics to round out your game.

The Priming Game Plan

If the purpose of the blocking tactic is to slow down the opponent to shift his chips, the Priming Game tactic is to absolutely block any activity of the opponent by building a prime – ideally 6 points in a row. The opponent’s checkers will either get hit, or end up in a bad position if he at all tries to leave the wall. The trap of the prime can be setup anyplace between point two and point 11 in your game board. Once you’ve successfully constructed the prime to block the activity of the opponent, the competitor doesn’t even get a chance to roll the dice, that means you move your checkers and toss the dice yet again. You will win the game for sure.

The Back Game Tactic

The goals of the Back Game tactic and the Blocking Game tactic are very similar – to harm your opponent’s positions with hope to boost your chances of succeeding, however the Back Game technique uses seperate tactics to do that. The Back Game technique is often utilized when you are far behind your opponent. To participate in Backgammon with this strategy, you have to control 2 or more points in table, and to hit a blot (a single checker) late in the game. This plan is more challenging than others to play in Backgammon seeing as it needs careful movement of your chips and how the chips are relocated is partly the result of the dice roll.
