The Basics of Backgammon Game Plans – Part 2

As we dicussed in the last article, Backgammon is a casino game of skill and good luck. The goal is to move your pieces carefully around the game board to your inner board and at the same time your opposing player moves their checkers toward their home board in the opposing direction. With opposing player chips moving in opposing directions there is going to be conflict and the need for specific strategies at particular times. Here are the last two Backgammon strategies to finish off your game.

The Priming Game Tactic

If the aim of the blocking strategy is to hamper the opponents ability to move her pieces, the Priming Game strategy is to absolutely stop any movement of the opposing player by assembling a prime – ideally 6 points in a row. The competitor’s pieces will either get bumped, or end up in a damaged position if she at all tries to escape the wall. The trap of the prime can be setup anywhere between point 2 and point 11 in your game board. Once you’ve successfully built the prime to block the movement of the opponent, the competitor does not even get to toss the dice, and you move your checkers and toss the dice again. You’ll win the game for sure.

The Back Game Technique

The goals of the Back Game tactic and the Blocking Game tactic are similar – to harm your opponent’s positions with hope to boost your odds of succeeding, but the Back Game strategy utilizes seperate techniques to do that. The Back Game plan is often used when you are far behind your competitor. To compete in Backgammon with this plan, you need to hold two or more points in table, and to hit a blot late in the game. This strategy is more complex than others to use in Backgammon because it needs careful movement of your chips and how the checkers are moved is partly the result of the dice roll.
