As we dicussed in the previous article, Backgammon is a casino game of ability and pure luck. The goal is to shift your chips carefully around the game board to your inside board and at the same time your opponent moves their checkers toward their home board in the opposite direction. With opposing player pieces heading in opposite directions there is going to be conflict and the requirement for specific strategies at specific times. The Priming Game Tactic
If the goal of the blocking tactic is to hamper the opponents ability to move her chips, the Priming Game tactic is to completely stop any movement of the opposing player by constructing a prime – ideally 6 points in a row. The opponent’s pieces will either get bumped, or result a bad position if he/she ever tries to escape the wall. The trap of the prime can be setup anyplace between point 2 and point 11 in your game board. After you have successfully constructed the prime to stop the movement of your competitor, your competitor does not even get to roll the dice, and you move your pieces and toss the dice again. You will be a winner for sure.
The Back Game Technique
The objectives of the Back Game technique and the Blocking Game plan are very similar – to hurt your opponent’s positions with hope to boost your chances of succeeding, however the Back Game plan relies on different tactics to achieve that. The Back Game technique is often used when you are far behind your opponent. To participate in Backgammon with this technique, you have to control 2 or more points in table, and to hit a blot (a single piece) late in the game. This tactic is more complex than others to play in Backgammon because it needs careful movement of your pieces and how the chips are relocated is partly the outcome of the dice toss.
