The Essential Basics of Backgammon Tactics – Part Two

As we have dicussed in the previous article, Backgammon is a game of skill and luck. The goal is to shift your checkers safely around the board to your home board and at the same time your opposing player shifts their chips toward their inner board in the opposing direction. With competing player pieces shifting in opposite directions there is going to be conflict and the need for particular strategies at specific instances. Here are the 2 final Backgammon strategies to finish off your game.

The Priming Game Tactic

If the goal of the blocking plan is to hamper the opponents ability to move her checkers, the Priming Game strategy is to completely block any activity of the opposing player by assembling a prime – ideally 6 points in a row. The opponent’s chips will either get bumped, or end up in a damaged position if he at all attempts to escape the wall. The trap of the prime can be established anywhere between point 2 and point eleven in your half of the board. Once you have successfully assembled the prime to block the movement of the opponent, your competitor doesn’t even get to toss the dice, that means you shift your chips and toss the dice yet again. You’ll win the game for sure.

The Back Game Plan

The objectives of the Back Game strategy and the Blocking Game strategy are similar – to hinder your competitor’s positions with hope to boost your odds of winning, but the Back Game plan uses seperate techniques to achieve that. The Back Game tactic is frequently utilized when you’re far behind your competitor. To play Backgammon with this strategy, you have to hold two or more points in table, and to hit a blot (a single piece) late in the game. This tactic is more challenging than others to play in Backgammon because it requires careful movement of your chips and how the chips are moved is partially the result of the dice toss.
